Detroit Goalies - Only a few spots remain
The Detroit Eli Wilson Goalie Camp is June 20 – 24, 2016 at the McCann Ice Arena at the University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan.
The camp curriculum consists of:
- morning ice session (2 hours)
- classroom session / video work
- high nutrition catered lunch.
- goalie-specific yoga training.
- afternoon ice session (1.5 hours).
The camp will run with two separate co-ed groups divided by age and experience.
InGoal spoke with Bob Essensa and shared a few reader questions with him
Head Instructors: Eli Wilson and Bob Essensa (both returning to Detroit for their 12th consecutive year).
THREE Professional Demo Goalies / also instructing (dressed in full goalie gear for ALL ice sessions):
- Jeff Glass (returning for his 9th consecutive year). KHL Dinamo Minsk.
- Michael Houser (returning for his 8th consecutive year / 5 as a student
and 3 as an demo/instructor). AHL Ontario Reign.
- CJ Motte (returning for his 6th consecutive year / 3 as a student and 3 as
a demo/instructor). ECHL Elmira Jackals.
Note the demo goalies come back every year (not because of the pay, which is small!), but to learn from Wilson and Essensa, and because they enjoy working with young and upcoming goalies.
High-level Junior and Midget AAA shooters (who can adjust appropriately to age and skill level of the student they are facing).
Goalie Students make quantum leaps in their skills and abilities over the five days at the camp. Many advancing to AAA, advancing to Travel or AA, making the Varsity team, taking over the #1 goalie spot on their team, winning state and national championships – becoming way better goalies, all because of what they learn and practice at this camp, IT IS THAT GOOD !
