Anaheim’s Andersen Resumes Starting Role in Playoffs

The Anaheim Ducks started out their postseason using perennial rookie netminder John Gibson to face the Nashville Predators, but after two games – and an assertion from head coach Bruce Boudreau that Gibson has just been “okay” in the two consecutive dropped games by the club – they’re switching back to Frederik Andersen. Finnish goaltender Pekka Rinne is no stranger to masks created by Swedish artist David Gunnarsson; he’s worn them for years. Traditionally, though, Rinne’s mask has focused on the Predators portion of the team name. Gorgeous designs with fierce, sabre-toothed cats and fiery monsters have long graced the planes of Rinne’s masks over the years. Now, though, he and Gunnarsson have made a bit of a shift; on his new mask, the focus is instead on Nashville as a city. Lundqvist Injury Puts ‘Illegal’ Cat Eye In Spotlight

During Game One of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals between the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, goaltender Henrik Lundqvist – widely considered one of New York’s most valuable weapons – left the game after just one period of play due to an eye injury sustained when teammate Marc Staal poked him through the cage of his mask with a stick blade.
