Boston’s Tuukka Rask Includes Gerry Cheevers on Badass Bear Mask

Tuukka Rask Boston Bruins Goalie MAskIn his first full season as Boston’s undisputed No.1 goaltender, Tuukka Rask is paying homage to past Bruins greats on his new mask.

Painted by popular Swedish artist David Gunnarsson of DaveArt, Rask’s new lid features a raging bear in the middle of the forehead, with Gerry Cheevers in his famous “stitches” mask on the left side.

“With this mask on Tuukka Rask will be transformed into a badass bear,” Gunnarsson wrote on his Facebook page, adding he used a wide range of “Special FX,” including Holographix FX, 3-D PaintTech, and GhostSmoke. “And as always when you come closer you will discover more and more details, and when you come really close you will discover tributes to legendary Bruins players.”

We already identified the Cheevers image. But there is also an unidentified skater on the left edge and the smiling face of another player along the back right edge. We have a pretty good idea who the latter is, but want to hear from you. If you recognize one or both of the images on Rask’s mask, let us know in the comments section at the bottom of the page.

After you’ve checked out all the details of Rask’s new mask below – and made your guesses in comments – you can find more of Gunnarsson’s great artwork on both his website and on his Twitter feed. And for all the new masks you can expect to see when the NHL season starts on Jan. 19, be sure to visit out InGoal’s mask page.

About The Author

David is one of the founders of InGoal Magazine which he began in 2009. Of course he finds time for some goaltending of his own as well, and despite his age, clings desperately to the idea that some NHL team will call him to play for them - though in his mid-forties (OK, late 40s) it'll likely be for a practice when everyone else on their depth chart has the flu and the shooter tutor has gone in for repairs.

  4. You may want to change the story. Tuukka is not wearing that mask this year. That was just a sample mask. I also find it funny you never mention Pros Choice when you show their masks in your stories.
