Henrik Lundqvist’s 2009-2010 New York Rangers Mask

by David Hutchison

King Henrik’s new mask art is similar to last year but taken to a new level of excellence.

UPDATE: Henrik took deleivery of a new mask with a “white pearl” background. I have included it here for comparison!

Rangers’ goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has a fantastic design on his mask this year thanks to inGoal Magazine friend Dave Gunnarsson of DaveArt fame in Sweden. You’ll notice lots of similarities that remind you of his original design, but Dave has worked hard to take it to another level – and has succeeded. As noted on Dave’s site:

“The design continues in the same spirit, but this season more in blue. And just as usual when David is in action, an extreme detail work with amazing 3-D effects.”

The detail and 3-D work really is fantastic as is the use of metallic paints in places. As I’m sure readers will know – these great photos can’t do justice to how great the mask will look in person. Also note the mask is sporting the Bauer logo this year – Henrik joined their team this year. Check out this contest to win a signed Lundqvist mask sponsored by Bauer!

I’m usually a big fan of Dave’s work, but this is a pretty straightforward (pretty but typical) design for King Hank. I like the glitter effect in it, I have a similar effect on my mask!
