Flames goalie Mikka Kiprusoff’s new mask celebrates Calgary’s 30th Anniversary Season

I’ve been after these shots since Kipper appeared in a game recently wearing a new Bauer mask with artwork by David Arrigo, rather than his traditional artist Todd Miska. Arrigo so far has been unable to provide me with any shots but I have a friend in Montreal who did manage to locate these.

    That is pretty sick.

I like how David made the skulls, cityscape and flames all flow together. I especially like the layout of the 30th anniversary emblem on the chin. I gotta say I’ve never noticed any other paint artist put his initials on the mask, but maybe wasn’t paying close enough attention. I like that David’s initials are very minor (not that he’d go out of his way to make them obvious). Wow, I just noticed the other anniversary logo in white (very subtle) on the side that’s almost watermark-like. Very cool!

I just don’t see the detail and overall ‘pop’ that the Miska masks had. Everything here seems to bleed into everything else. Not my favorite…

Dave the Kipper and all the other mask you’ve created, buddy my hats goes off to you. Wonderful pieces of art work. You made your dream come true by doing what you love to do and no one is going to take that away from you..

    Bravo muchacho! Bravo!
