Peter Budaj’s 2010-2011 Colorado Avalanche Mask

Flanders returns for another season

The constant theme you’ll find on each of Peter Budaj’s masks is Flanders from the Simpsons. Flanders of course is Budaj’s nickname – he is proud of being a Christian. Flanders manned the backplate on last season’s mask and had an even more prominent position on Budaj’s Olympic mask.

Last season his mask was a tribute to racing legend Valentino Rossi and also made extensive use of the Avs footprint logo as with this year’s design – which is anchored by the playful Yeti character.

As always the 2009-2010 lid was designed by Dave Gunnarsson of Daveart.com

David is one of the founders of InGoal Magazine which he began in 2009. Of course he finds time for some goaltending of his own as well, and despite his age, clings desperately to the idea that some NHL team will call him to play for them - though in his mid-forties (OK, late 40s) it'll likely be for a practice when everyone else on their depth chart has the flu and the shooter tutor has gone in for repairs.

I’m curious what the 7/21/10 date on the backplate is for?
