Roberto Luongo’s New Johnny Canuck Mask
At least Roberto Luongo hasn’t lost his sense of humor.
If only Canucks fans could find a similar sense of perspective when it comes to the Vancouver goaltender.
Booed by the home fans during Tuesday’s 4-0 loss to the Rangers, and ripped repeatedly on sports radio ever since, Luongo broke out a new mask prior to Thursday’s game against Nashville, joking it was “a couple weeks late, just like my game.”
While that game has, by his own admission, always been a little off in October, there’s nothing wrong with Luongo’s new Marlene Ross-painted lid, which brings back a new version of the Johnny Canuck character he has used on past masks.
“I wanted to bring a bit of everything that I’ve had since I’ve been here, the Johnny Canuck back on the top and a vintage look,” Luongo said of the decision to leave his new lid, which features “Canucks” on the left side and “Vancouver” on the right with a matte finish, rather than the usual high gloss, an idea he credits to his brother in law.

Cool helping him win eh?
hate the intentionally ‘vintage’ stripes but i love the green cage!
absolutley awful…to cartoonish looking
I love it. Nice to see Johnny Canuck back on the mask. Lui’s always got an original take with his masks, and this one is one of his best.
Ishhhhhhhh !!!!!
Horrible just like the goalie (overrated)
The so called johnny useless canuck looks like a “mario pizzeria delivery guy” … and wow hope it was drawn by a 8 years old boy … and true the bottom stripe looks horrible … looks like a old system font on a Mac !
4/10
Another great mask. Have always been a fan of Ms. Ross. Always will be. Keep up the good work Marlene!
I actually really like the vintage stripes but im not a fan of johnny canuck, he looks a little to much like Mario to me. Green cage is sick.
Another ugly mask for Luongo, but it IS a step up from his last one
I love his mask its nicer than last year. What is on the sides it looks like pennies for luck. Hes a great goalie, give him a break.people who cut him up probably could not do his job.
ughhhh, that mask is freakin awfull, and anyone who thinks thats nice is on crack or only likes canucks cause there from bc, if that belonged to a goalie from tampa, would you think the same thing, i think not, johnny cannuck is acrap logo
sick mask luongo your the man
I think the reason the johnny canuck looks a bit like mario is because luongo is of Italian descent. I think it looks awesome. Some of his in the past have been terrible, but this is definitely not one of them.
I love this mask. One of the best he’s had, I think he needs a little something on the chin though…..maybe a #1 or the vintage logo. Bobby Lou is the man. I am painting my goalie helmet just like it. Go Canucks!
