- Houston Aeros netminder Anton Khudobin handed San Antonio their second shutout and third loss in 3 days with a 2-0 win on 28 stops. (Houston Aeros)
- As luck would have it, InGoalMag’s very own Scott Slingsby was in attendance Saturday night when Manchester Monarchs goalie Jeff Zatkoff stopped all 31 shots to nail the shutout against the Providence Bruins. Scott got some amazing shots, so don’t miss his post about the game. (In Goal Magazine)
- Alex Stalock earned his first professional shutout for the Worcester Sharks Saturday night with 18 saves, but the real story of goalie heroics is Springfield netminder, Devan Dubnyk‘s whopping 47 saves, only to allow the game winner in overtime for a 1-0 Sharks win. Sometimes life just isn’t fair. (Worcester Sharks)
- Somehow I missed Friday’s epic battle between Chicago’s Manny Legace and Manitoba’s Cory Schneider, in which the game was scoreless for 65 minutes, until the shootout, where the Wolves could only solve Schneider once, but the Moose found the back of the net twice. (Winnipeg Sun)
- And finally, a reader commented on why I didn’t give any props to Alexander Salak for the incredible performances he’s been turning in lately for the Rochester Amerks. I mostly only do game reports for shutouts, so Salak hadn’t yet made the cut… until Sunday, when he blanked the Syracuse Crunch. Salak’s star is unquestionably on the rise right now; he’s one to watch, along with his Amerks, who lead the AHL in the standings. (Let’s Go Amerks)
Here’s some video of Salak, who I keep hearing has a very unusual style. His stance is incredibly low and he’s big guy. Great stuff.

Given all the talk of Salak’s “Hasek-esque unique style”, I was expecting to see a more unconventional style of play when I went to the game last night.
While Salak’s does have a wide and deep stance, his overall style isn’t anywhere in the Hasek realm as far as uniqueness goes, IMO.
One thing he did that I only wish I could do was when he had a skate on each post when the play was behind the net and the attacker could come out either side.
Salak had the ability to move to either side from that starting position.
I would be stuck in that position for a while…..
The deep stances of today remind me of Rogie Vachon and I believe it was Mario Lessard of the kings. Wonder how they would do in todays NHL?
Yeah, I’m puzzled by statements that he’s not a b-fly goalie. He sure looks like one to me. I have one free game on AHL Live (already subscribe to the Aeros games). I may have to use it to watch an Amerks game and check him out.
How is he not slipping on his cowlings playing that low? I dunno… I’m fascinated though.
He sure makes his movement look very effortless. I would be interested to see his movement with his team on a penalty kill. Most of the shots he seemed to face in the video were straight on and he didn’t seem tested too much to go side-to-side.
