Game Reports
- If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, this wouldn’t make today’s report, but San Antonio’s Al Montoya was amazing in a bad way tonight against the Houston Aeros. Montoya racked up tripping and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties within 36 seconds of each other midway through the second, giving the Aeros a 2-man advantage on which they capitalized to tie the game. That goal, plus an Oscar-worthy dive, shifted the momentum in the Aeros favor so much that the team won 5-2. More on Montoya’s performance here and here at The Third Intermission.
- Chet Pickard made his professional debut tonight for Milwaukee against the Abbotsford Heat, but will have to shake off letting in 7 goals on 31 shots in the 7-5 loss. (Admirals Short Shifts)
Where in the World is Braden Holtby?
- While this isn’t AHL news per se, I’ve covered him so much, I felt like it was worth noting that he’s on the move again. In his second reassignment in almost as many days, Holtby has been called up from ECHL South Carolina directly to the Washington Captials. (Washington Capitals)

It’s really too bad that both Montoya and Adam Munro seem to have fallen so far in careers that began with such promise.Both were first round picks(Montoya 6th overall by the Rangers in 2004,Munro by Chicago 29th in 2001)Montoya unfortunately was deemed expendable by the Rangers with the rise to prominence of Henrik Lundqvist and Munro was baptised under fire in the Hawks goal during the early 00s when Chicago was just an awful team.
Here’s hoping that both of these goalies turn their careers around, and a little luck will be needed too(but which goaltender among us doesn’t ALWAYS need a bit of luck?)
