Awards
- Manchester Monarchs Jonathan Bernier won Goaltender of the Month for the (TheAHL.com) and Rochester Amerks Alexander Salak won Rookie of the Month (TheAHL.com).
- Hopefully you didn’t miss IGM’s own Scott Slingsby‘s fantastic look at Bernier’s mask earlier this week.
- Abbotsford Heat’s Leland Irving was named AHL Player of the Week last week, as well. (TheAHL.com)

- A couple of mask features here on Tyler Weiman of Lake Erie (The Goalie Guild) and Hershey Bears’ goalies’ masks now, with plans to look back through the years at previous masks (Stack the Pads).
- Jason Bacashihua‘s glove is a difference-maker for Hershey (Lebanon Daily News) and he’s making the competition for goaltending in the Capitals’ organization pretty stiff with his excellent play (Bleacher Report).
- Here’s some video from Austin and the Texas Stars about goalie Matt Climie and his roommate, winger Ray Sawada. I had to laugh at the end when he says they’re playing the “Minnesota Moose” this weekend. Well, it does start with M and is a place up north that snows a lot. So, that’s close enough.

Photographer and friend of IGM, Chris Jerina, sent us this great shot of Rockford Ice Hogs goalie Corey Crawford making a blocker save, and probably avoiding some ringing ears, in a game against Milwaukee on Saturday. Thanks, Chris!

Belfour switched from #30 to #20 to honor Tretiak, so that shouldn’t surprise anyone.
James – I didn’t realize that factoid about Belfour, interesting to know!
Thanks for the link to pics of Tyler Weiman’s mask. I love the way Craig Anderson’s playing, but I think the graphics on his mask are weak compared to Tyler’s. They did a good job creating a variety of elements from the Avs’ logos without duplicating too much of what previous and current Avs goalies have had on their masks.
Tretiak continues to influence young goalies of today — my Atom aged daughter watches his play on youtube. Tretiak was certainly ahead of his time.
