Luongo wants opportunity to fix playoff mistakes

The Wild goaltender talks about his favorite hockey memory, favorite arenas to play in and more in this week’s interview: Getting To Know: Niklas Backstrom

Tuuka Rask has cemented his position as #2 in Boston with Sabourin sent down. Bruins Almost set

Jonathan Quick will be the Kings’ No. 1 goalie this season, but the coaches and management are still deciding between Jonathan Bernier and Erik Ersberg for the backup job. LA Times and the LA Daily News also looks at the situation in Kings No. 2 goalie in question

Controversy brewing in Toronto:

The totals for the Leafs two goaltenders in the back-to-back games against the Red Wings?

Vesa Toskala: Sixty minutes played, five goals against.

The Monster: Sixty minutes played, zero goals against.

Toskala in no hurry to worry

And then tonight he let in 7 in 24 shots against the Sabres. Coach Ron Wilson announces Toskala will still be #1 on opening night. OK, but you have to think it’ll be a very short run before Wilson announces a “win and you’re in” policy in Toronto.

Clearly Toskala’s poor season last year and the hot start of the prized rookie as left Leafs national and the blogosphere (not to mention the Twitterverse) with lots to say:

Of course he finds time for some goaltending of his own as well, and despite his age, clings desperately to the idea that some NHL team will call him to play for them - though in his mid-forties (OK, late 40s) it'll likely be for a practice when everyone else on their depth chart has the flu and the shooter tutor has gone in for repairs.
