Game Reports

Columbus-Calgary

  • It was Mikka Kiprusoff vs. Steve Mason in Columbus tonight with the youngster coming away with the victory and a stellar 22 save performance. Calgary Herald and Columbus Dispatch.

Mason stops Jokinen

Detroit – Buffalo

Miller makes it look easy stopping Fippula on a penalty shot

Colorado – Toronto

  • Joey MacDonald got the start for the Leafs but the result was similar to other games this year with the Toronto 3rd stringer giving up two goals on the first seven shots and 4 out of 28 overall. At times he looked like he was struggling – far off his angle on the second goal – but then any goalie would look shakey behind the Leafs these days. Craig Anderson played a solid game and happily defended his crease aggressively. National Post.
  • I doesn’t add much to the story but I had to show this headline from the Denver Post – gramatically correct but they are the Leafs. Anderson in net against Leaves, Stewart scratched again. Well, at least in the article they spell the arena name properly – Air Canada Centre.
  • Tucker sparks Avs as Anderson stymies Leafs

Who doesn’t love a poke check? Jason Blake I’ll bet!

Miller’s strong start and Tim Thomas’ struggles out of the gate for the Bruins are making the US starting goalie in the Olympics discussion a lot more interesting!

As a Sabres fan, I’m torn. I’d love to see Ryan get the honor of being the #1 guy for the US in Vancouver.

But, Ryan has had overwork issues throughout his career, so I wouldn’t shed a tear if he were able to get some needed rest over the Olympic break as I can’t see Lindy Ruff not riding Miller hard this season with Patrick Lalime backing him up.

Lalime isn’t good enough to earn Ruff’s trust to play 20 to 30 games this year.

Thomas has looked a bit shakey out of the gate, but he tends to be a slow starter. I know it’s his dream to play for the USA, but I hope that he’s got his act together by then and not too over worked. Like the above comment, I wouldn’t mind seeing Miller get the nod and give Thomas the rest.
