It is fitting that the biggest issue of InGoal Magazine, with more than 100 pages of goaltending goodies, includes our most in-depth analysis of one of the best seasons by an NHL goaltender ever. Jonathan Quick’s year ended with the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophies, and could have arguably also included a Vezina and Hart after backstopping the anemic Los Angeles Kings to the playoffs before leading them to the championship. Along the way, there was a lot of talk about Quick’s incredible athleticism and flexibility, but when you talk to Quick himself you quickly realize the biggest change in his game was adding technique that allowed him to rely on those fully extended saves less often. InGoal breaks down that evolution completely with Quick and the Kings’ two goaltending coaches, as well as a special head-to-toe look at his equipment, including a skate-blade secret that helps with those incredible pushes.
Of course there’s a lot more to the issue, including fitness tips to help you channel your inner Quick, and advice from a handful of NHL pros and coaches.
