Daveart makes another new twist on ‘Monster’ nickname fitting for Detroit
Jonas Gustavsson arrived in North America already well known as ‘monster’ and his masks, not surprisingly, always had a monster theme. From his Toronto Maple Leafs mask, to his Swedish Olympic Mask or last season’s first in Detroit, a ‘monster hot rod’ mask, they have all represented his nickname in some way. After bringing a car to the mask in 2012-2013, this year, his personal painter Dave Gunnarsson of Davert.com put another decidedly Detroit twist in the design. It comes in the form of a ‘monster trucks covering both sides and the top of the mask. It’s a great look and one that should prove popular with many a young fan and one that will also be appreciated back home in Sweden – the truck is a classic Volvo Amazon, according to Gunnarsson.
Interestingly, the mask comes from an idea Gunnarsson has been sitting on for years – he has painted for Gustavsson since he was a youngster, and also notes, “I came up with and created this idea back in the 90´s when I was a teenager. I just love to come up with new ideas every day, and I love to draw. I save all my drawings in my huge archive, filled with thousands and thousands of drawings. Now I just finalized my concept drawings :)”
