Shots on Goal: Avs Giguere Blanks Bruins, Rask

Jean-Seabsiten Giguere made the most of his first start of the season as he blanked the Boston Bruins Thursday night with a 2-0 shutout, his first over the B’s and 37th of his career.

Colorado took their up tempo game to the B’s in the first period out shooting them 14-10 and went into the locker room with a 1-0 lead after Ryan O’Reilly tipped an Andre Benoit shot from the point past Tuukka Rask.

Boston picked up the pace in the next two frames but was unable to generate any offense even though they out shot the Avs 15-6 and 14-9 respectively. Jiggy had an answer for every Boston offering and turned them all away.

Matt Duchene closed out the scoring with an empty-netter with 26 seconds to go.

Two colorful goalies with great personality. And once again two goalies with great saves and enjoyable game. By the way great hockey masks.

Yes, indeed. Finland vs. Quebec is always a great matchup.

Well…so much for smaller pads increasing scoring. A lot of people write Giggy off as a keeper these days, but he’s still a very capable one.

Scary close call for

Scary close call for Winnipeg Jets Connor Hellebuyck as teammate’s stick blade got through his cage + cut him near eye; interestingly amid the debate about cat-eye cages, which are banned in Canada, the blade actually appears to go in under the lower bar of the cat-eye opening. Frankly it’s hard to see why that gap, which does nothing to help vision, needs to be big enough for a blade to get through, as unlikely as this incident might be.
