Shots on Goal: Nashville Predators vs Boston Bruins
Tim Thomas denies Nashville snipers Sergei Kostitsyn and Martin Erat in the shootout to put the finishing touches on an exciting Saturday afternoon matinee.
Down 3-2 in the final minutes of the third and on a powerplay, Boston pulled Thomas for the extra attacker. With just 67 ticks left Milan Lucic grabbed a rebound off the back boards and chipped it in past a diving Pekka Rinne to send the game into overtime.
Nashville was out shot 41-22 and out played for most of the afternoon but hung tough and made the most of the limited shots on Thomas. The final 9 1/2 minutes minutes of the first period saw the Predators muster only one shot on goal.
Boston’s offense came from Patrice Bergeron on a short handed bid at the 16:00 mark of the first and Daniel Paille at 2:55 in the third frame.
Tyler Seguin and Patrice Bergeron beat Rinne in the shootout.
Thomas (23-10-0) stopped 19 of 22 shots to record the win.
Pekka Rinne (30-12-6) is 0-1-2 in his last 3 games after reeling off 11 straight wins. He also picked up his second assist of the season on Patric Hornqvist’s third period goal. Shea Weber and Mike Fisher provided the rest of the Nashville offense.
