Cam Lanigan of the Medicine Hat Tigers was named the Vaughn Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Week after winning both his games, including one shutout, a 0.50 goals-against-average and a .982 save percentage.
Lanigan stopped 54 of 55 shots last week, helping the seventh-place Tigers earn a pair of wins over top WHL Eastern Conference competition. The 20-year-old made 12 of his 28 saves in the third period to preserve a 2-1 victory over first-place Edmonton on Friday, earning Second Star honours. On Sunday, he was perfect between the pipes against fourth-place Red Deer, stopping all 26 shots in a 3-0 victory to again earn the Second Star nod along with his second shutout of the month.
Playing his fifth WHL season, Lanigan is 13-10-1-1 for Medicine Hat with a 2.98 goals-against-average and .907 save percentage.
Also considered for the award for the week ending Jan. 20 was Mathias Niederberger of the Barrie Colts after winning both his starts with a goals-against-average of 2.40 and save percentage of .950; and Moncton’s Alex Dubeau, who had a shutout in his two wins while posting a 0.50 goals-against-average and .979 save percentage.
