Vaughn CHL Goalie of the Week: Medicine Hat’s Cam Lanigan

Vaughn LogoCam Lanigan of the Medicine Hat Tigers was named the Vaughn Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Week after winning both his games, including one shutout, a 0.50 goals-against-average and a .982 save percentage.

Lanigan stopped 54 of 55 shots last week, helping the seventh-place Tigers earn a pair of wins over top WHL Eastern Conference competition. The 20-year-old made 12 of his 28 saves in the third period to preserve a 2-1 victory over first-place Edmonton on Friday, earning Second Star honours. On Sunday, he was perfect between the pipes against fourth-place Red Deer, stopping all 26 shots in a 3-0 victory to again earn the Second Star nod along with his second shutout of the month.

Playing his fifth WHL season, Lanigan is 13-10-1-1 for Medicine Hat with a 2.98 goals-against-average and .907 save percentage.

Also considered for the award for the week ending Jan. 20 was Mathias Niederberger of the Barrie Colts after winning both his starts with a goals-against-average of 2.40 and save percentage of .950; and Moncton’s Alex Dubeau, who had a shutout in his two wins while posting a 0.50 goals-against-average and .979 save percentage.
