Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week: Eetu Laurikainen

Eetu Laurikainen of the Swift Current Broncos was named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending October 7 after winning both his games with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .973.

Laurikainen, playing his first season in the Western Hockey League after an impressive junior career in his native Finland, made 71 saves in two games and backstopped the Broncos to a pair of wins over East Division opponents, including being named Third Star after 46 saves in a 10-1 win over the Saskatoon Blades. One night later he picked up First Star honours in a tight 2-1 win over the Regina Pats after making 25 saves, including 12 in the third period to preserve the win.

Laurikainen, a 19-year-old from Jyvaskyla, Finland, was selected 20th overall in the 2012 CHL Import Draft.

Also considered for the award last week were Christopher Festarini of the Niagara IceDogs, who won two games including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .966. In the QMJHL, Francis Desrosiers of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens went 1-2-0-0 with a shutout victory recording a goals-against-average of 1.35 and save percentage of .959.

Sept. 20 – Sept. 23 : John Gibson, Kitchener Rangers
