The Western Hockey League continued an impressive streak when Patrik Bartosak of the Red Deer Rebels was announced as the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for last week winning all three starts with a shutout, a 0.63 goals-against-average and a .982 save percentage.
Bartosak made it three weeks in a row for WHL goalies, who have taken home six of the last eight awards as well.
The 19-year-old from the Czech Republic kicked off his impressive 108-save week with a 43-stop shutout – his first of the season – of Medicine Hat on Tuesday. He followed that up with back-to-back shootout wins over the weekend, stopping 23 and all three in the shutout for a 2-1 win over Lethbridge, and 42 saves before three of four in a 2-1 shootout win over Moose Jaw.
Playing in his second WHL season with the Rebels, Bartosak improved to 13-7-1-0 record with a goals-against-average of 2.35 and a save percentage of .933, the third highest in the WHL after last weekend’s games.
Also considered for the award this week was Garret Sparks of the Guelph Storm after winning two games with one shutout and a save percentage of .968. Rookie Alexandre Belanger of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies also had two wins, a shutout and a .961.
