Jeff Zatkoff returns to Manchester as a Member of the Penguins
Jeff Zatkoff returns to Manchester and records a 3-0 shutout against his former team.
For the past five seasons Zats called Manchester home where backstopped the Monarchs to 55 wins, 41 of which came in his last two seasons after Jonathan Bernier made the move to the Kings. He also earned an invite to the 2012 Eastern Conference AHL All-Star team. Nowadays he’s sporting a Wilkes-Barre/Scranton sweater and sharing goaltending duties with Brad Theissen.
Zatkoff put his game face on after a nice round of applause during introductions and silenced the crowd for the rest of the evening with a 33 save effort earning his second win of the season and first shutout.
After a scoreless first period the Penguins took control with a powerplay goal from Eric Tangradi at 3:42 of the second frame. Tangradi picked up a loose puck in front of Martin Jones and went five-hole on him for his sixth goal of the season.
Just under five minutes later and with a man advantage again, defenseman Dylan Reese picked up his first score of the season with wrister from the right circle that beat Jones high stick side.
New Hampshire-native Paul Thompson put the finishing touches on the game with and empty netter at 19:19 of the third period.
Jones (5-2-0) took his second loss stopping 26 of 28 shots.
