This week’s photo was submitted by Rachel Lewis who notes:

“What can I say, goalies are my favorite subject. They’re unpredictable, easy to follow, and I especially love eye shots…after all, who are these men behind the mask? I hope to one day to put together a goalie photo book. I love frozen action, and any time I can get the puck in the photo as well is bonus. I certainly spent enough years on the ice helping to defend them on the ice as a defenseman.

I’ve been following goaltender Charlie Effinger since his first season of collegiate hockey (now in his first pro season), but didn’t start taking photos of him until truly his junior season.

Certainly an oldie but a goodie photo of Charlie. Took that last season at his Senior Game (Miami’s final home game of the season). That photo is one of the two on my biz card (the other photo is the one of the floating puck shot…that puck does NOT go into the net, somehow Charlie STOPPED it. It would’ve been the tying goal for the Buckeyes in the third period. Of course it can’t photojournalistically be used because I use this photo as an example of my Photoshop skills since I successfully removed the stick, but I do use it for contests and whatnot.)

Remember, this is an actual save NOT a goal!”

If you’d like to know more about Charlie, he’s now with the Trenton Devils of the ECHL. Here’s his profile.
