I’m an amateur photographer with a passion for shooting hockey, goalies specifically. Although I enjoy shooting the whole game I especially love shooting the action around the net because this is where the game is won or lost. For me there is nothing better than capturing the puck in mid air going over the goalies shoulder or freezing the puck as it’s deflected by the blocker.

I started shooting hockey about 5 years ago because  my wife and daughter, both serious hockey fans, were going to Army hockey games while I stayed home. I decided to go to a game with them one night and bring my camera along just to add a little interest for me and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’m currently shooting with a Nikon D300 and with the 70-200mm f2.8 lens

I hope to provide some pictures for our editors at inGoal Magazine and maybe some photography tips that I’ve learned along the way.  I live in New Hampshire so I have quite a few resources close to home. There are three high schools that play at our local rink, numerous colleges in the area, two AHL teams and of course the Boston Bruins are only an hour from the house.

This week’s picture is of Erik Peterson of Bentley College scoring the first goal of the night against Canicius goalie Dan Morrison. This was  the first game  of their three game playoff series in the Atlantic Hockey Conference.  Bentley won the game 6-3

If you’re interested in viewing the pictures of the whole game just “click” on the picture and that will take you to my flickr site.

One Response to Shots on Goal: Goalie Photography

I love photography too, I’m actually going to school for it. Although I’ve found that it’s hard to me to take pictures when I go to hockey games, because I get too caught up in the game and I forget about taking pictures. Although I do have some nice shots of Ryan Miller from the games that I go to that you might be interested in.
