Brian’s Pad of Week: Custom Lessons for Euro Pros
When Pittsburgh Penguins draft pick Bobby Goepfert first showed off his new custom pads for his upcoming season in Germany’s top-level Deutsche Eishockey Liga, they were a sight to behold.
The St. Cloud State alum had teamed up with the experts at Brian’s Custom Sports to produce a stunning set of G-NETik pads to match the red-and-yellow of his Duesseldorf EG squad.
The custom set (on the left) included spectacular flames with the team’s lion logo on the bottom, vertical stitching, and retro Brian’s logos both on and above the knee rolls.
It was certain to be a head turner in the DEL.
There was only one problem.
Turns out Duesseldorf EG has a pad sponsor.
Goepfert relayed the regrettable news through his Twitter account, complete with a photo:
Heartbreaking news for any fan of great goalie pads and the incredible custom work turned out by the Kings of Custom over at Brian’s. But at least we can relive the beauty of Goepfert’s would-be unique G-NETiks digitally, thanks to these photos of the detailed planning and stitching that went into them:
