New Foundation to Support Goallies with Camps, Gear

Eli Wilson and Dan Meyer, VP of Sales and Marketing, believe in helping others. They have spearheaded this new foundation to help goaltenders who wouldn’t otherwise afford a goalie camp get the training they need, or the gear they couldn’t afford – even if they choose someone else’s school.  It’s also why they joined Reebok/CCM and InGoal to ensure our latest contest will put three sets of youth gear in the hands of an association (contest closed – congratulations to our winners) that will see it gets used to make our position more affordable for kids in need.

Hockey is the greatest game on earth, and goaltenders play the most expensive, challenging, and toughest position in the game. It isn’t easy to recruit and train great goalies.

Assisting goalies that could otherwise not afford to play is a major priority for Eli Wilson Goaltending and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). Through their recently established foundation, goaltenders that could not otherwise afford this type of training will get to attend camps and develop their skills. Between costly equipment, hockey fees, and specialized training, the unfortunate reality is that too many young goalies stop enjoying and learning the game because of cost. It shouldn’t be that way. So much positive comes from playing team sports like hockey, and so many good things happen when someone excels at something they love. Money shouldn’t be a barrier.

Together with IHG, Eli Wilson Goaltending is working to help make goaltending accessible to everyone. The Eli Wilson Goaltending IHG Sponsorship Fund assists goaltenders with the financial assistance they need to attend goaltending camps, purchase equipment, or receive donated equipment. The goaltenders that receive funding can use the support to attend any goalie camp, not just Eli Wilson Goaltending camps.

IHG, the marketing arm of Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Staybridge Suites, and several other high quality hotel brands, spearheads the project with an annual contribution. The fund is augmented by the generosity of countless individuals along with past and current Eli Wilson students.

If you would not be able to attend a goaltending camp without financial assistance, Click Here: simply fill out the application form and email, mail, or fax it to Eli Wilson Goaltending – IHG Sponsorship Fund.

If you would like to make a contribution to the fund, Click Here: you can count on your contribution going to great use.

The Eli Wilson Goaltending – IHG Sponsorship Fund is a registered non-profit corporation. Aside from minimal accounting and legal fees, all money goes directly to goaltenders requiring financial assistance. Financial means should not interfere with the love of the game, for individuals and hockey associations alike.

David Hutchison

David is one of the founders of InGoal Magazine which he began in 2009. Of course he finds time for some goaltending of his own as well, and despite his age, clings desperately to the idea that some NHL team will call him to play for them - though in his mid-forties (OK, late 40s) it'll likely be for a practice when everyone else on their depth chart has the flu and the shooter tutor has gone in for repairs.
