Matt Mahalak of the Kingston Frontenacs is the Vaughn Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Week after only giving up one goal while winning both his starts for a 0.40 goals-against average and .982 save percentage.
Mahalak stopped 56 of 57 shots while helping the Frontenacs extend their winning-streak to four games and climb to second place in the Ontario Hockey League’s Eastern Conference. On Friday, Mahalak earned First Star honours with 27 saves and his second shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over the Peterborough Petes. On Sunday, he was named Third Star after making 29 saves in a 2-1 win over the first-place Oshawa Generals, including a penalty shot stop in the first period, and 12 saves in the third to preserve a tight victory.
