Vaughn CHL Goalie of Week: Jackets Prospect Dansk

Vaughn LogoColumbus Blue Jackets prospect Oscar Dansk of the Erie Otters was named the Vaughn Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Week after winning both his starts with a shutout, a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .968.

Dansk made 61 saves in a pair of road victories for the Otters who are the CHL’s top-ranked team with a 26-4-1-0 record that includes seven straight wins. On Friday, he earned First Star honours after making 32 saves for his Ontario Hockey League-leading fourth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over the Ottawa 67’s. Then on Sunday he made 29 saves as part of a 7-2 win over the Kingston Frontenacs.

Dansk, a 19-year-old from Stockholm, Sweden, is playing in his second OHL season with the Otters and was recently named to Sweden’s Selection Camp Roster for the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship. Selected by the Blue Jackets in the second round of the 2012 NHL Draft, Dansk leads the OHL with a 2.24 goals-against average, and has a .917 save percentage and a 14-3-1-0 record this season.

Also considered for the award this week was past winner Jordon Cooke of the Kelowna Rockets after winning both games with a 1.96 goals against and a .932 save percentage, and Montreal Canadiens’ prospect Zachary Fucale of the Halifax Mooseheads, who was 2-0-0-1 with a 1.62 goals-against average and .923 save percentage.
