Vaughn CHL Goalie of Week: Sens’ Prospect Brassard
Ottawa Senators prospect Francois Brassard was named the Vaughn Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Week after posting shutouts in both his starts for a perfect 0.00 goals-against average of 0.00 and 1.000 save percentage.
Brassard stopped all 56 shots he faced last week and now leads the league with four shutouts while his Quebec Remparts sit in sixth place in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League standings with 31 points.
Brassard made 27 saves against the first place Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in 6-0 victory that was just the Armada’s third regulation loss of the season, and followed that performance with a 29-save effort and First Star honours in a 4-0 win over the Shawinigan Cataractes.
Brassard, a 19-year-old from Gatineau, Quebec,now has eight career shutouts with the Remparts, tying the team record set by Louis Domingue.
Playing in his third QMJHL season with the Remparts, Brassard was picked by the Senators in the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Draft. He has a 9-5-2-2 record with a goals-against-average of 2.97 and save percentage of .908 this season.
Also considered for the award this week was OHL Player of the Week Alex Fotinos of the Windsor Spitfires who posted a 3-0-0-0 record with one shutout, a goals-against average of 1.67 and save percentage of .951. In the WHL, Landon Bow of the Swift Current Broncos went 1-0-0-1 with a 1.44 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage.
