Vaughn CHL Goalie of Week: Victoria’s Polivka
Patrik Polivka of the Victoria Royals was named the Vaughn Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Week after winning all four games with one shutout, a 0.75 goals-against average and a .977 save percentage.
Polivka allowed just three goals on 131 shots while backstopping the Royals to four straight wins to move into a tie for fifth place in the Western Hockey League’s Western Conference standings with 35 points.
Polivka earned First Star honours in all four games, starting with a season-high 42 saves in a 2-1 victory over the Kamloops Blazers on Tuesday. The next night he made 26 saves in a 4-1 win over the B.C Division-leading Kelowna Rockets. He finished with back-to-back wins over the Blazers, starting with a 34-save performance in a 6-1 win Friday and then wrapping up the perfect week with 26 saves and his league-leading fourth shutout of the season Saturday.
Polivka, a 19-year-old native of the Czech Republic, is playing in his second WHL season. He is currently 12-8-0-0 and ranks the fifth in the WHL in both goals-against average (2.28) and save percentage (.923).
Also considered for the award this week was Philadelphia Flyers’ prospect Anthony Stolarz of the London Knights. Stolarz was 2-0-0-0 record with a shutout victory, a goals-against-average of 0.50 and a save percentage of .985. Alex Dubeau of the Moncton Wildcats was also in the running after earning a shutout victory in two starts while posting a 1.00 goals-against average and .968 save percentage.
