American Sniper Depicted on New Jack Campbell Mask

campbell2Dallas Stars’ prospect Jack Campbell has teamed up with David Gunnarsson of DaveArt to produce a bold new mask ahead of the new season.

“Jack was sure what he wanted on his new mask. He told me his idea last winter, and I started to brainstorm and sketch how it could be done.” Gunnarsson said on his Facebook page. “Jack wanted to pay tribute to the Navy Seal Chris Kyle, also called ‘The Legend’.”

Kyle’s autobiography, American Sniper, was released in 2012 and had a 37-week run on The New York Times bestseller list, earning Kyle national attention. A film adaptation, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Bradley Cooper, was released earlier this year.

“I read the book about his life and I started to plan how the design could be created.” Gunnarsson said. “Both Jack and I wanted the design to be very worthy, and true tribute to Chris Kyle. A mask to be proud of.”

“We decided to create the mask in this style; a worthy, elegant design, with a vintage touch. All created in black and white, with some vintage coloring.”

“The layout we created as a Storyteller design.” Gunnarsson continued “One side connected to the team, and the other side a tribute to Chris Kyle. I painted the design in a mix of airbrush and also old school brush. I love to mix paint techniques when I paint, to reach the goals for every new unique painting.”

Campbell’s new mask has the Dallas Stars ‘wheel’ covering the entire right hand side of the mask, with the smaller ‘D’ logo appearing across the crown and on the chin cup. Kyle is depicted on the left hand side of the mask, including his date of birth and death, with a faceless soldier also appearing.

The back of the soldier, and upper left hand side of the mask, also show the skull logo associated with the Marvel character The Punisher.

Campbell spent the majority of last season with Dallas AHL affiliated the Texas Stars, going 14-14-5 with a .907 save percentage and 3.03 goals against average.

With the arrival of Antti Niemi,Campbell’s chances of progressing with the Stars organization look to be limited, making the 23-year old’s future unclear at this time.
