Bob Adds Cannon Blast to New Columbus Mask
Sergei Bobrovsky returned from the 2104 Sochi Olympics with a new look.
Bobrovsky, who watched helplessly from the bench as Semyon Varlamov and his native Russia fell behind 3-0 in a quarterfinal loss to Finland at the Games, quickly shed his Olympic mask for a Columbus Blue Jackets theme upon returning.
Painted again by Swedish artist David Gunnarsson of DaveArt, Bobrovsky’s new look features both Blue Jackets logos and the cannon that blasts every time Columbus scores a goal at home. Unlike his Sochi mask, which was heavy on themes from his native Russia, the new Columbus mask features an American flag waving atop the right side, while a Russian flag flies on the left.
The brick wall theme continues, as it has on all Bobrovsky’s masks.
“The design is created brick by brick, just as usual on all of Bobrovsky´s masks. The brickwall theme is a perfect theme for a goalie,” Gunnarsson wrote on his Facebook page. “Around that is a Blue Jackets design created in total sync with the jersey. A design that is both old school and modern at the same time. And the closer you come the more details you will discover and the design enters a new dimension.”
