Bruce Springsteen Tribute Mask For Jets Pavelec
Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec may losing the battle for playing time with Michael Hutchinson this season, but his new mask makes it clear who the Boss really is in Winnipeg.
Painted by famous Swedish artist David Gunnarsson of DaveArt, Pavelec’s new lid is a front-to-back tribute to Bruce Springsteen, with multiple images of the world-famous rocker and his band on both sides of the CCM mask.
“When Ondrej Pavelec told me he wanted a tribute design to the boss himself, Bruce Springsteen and the E street Band, I was totally excited and could not wait to get started,” Gunnarsson wrote on his Facebook page. “I remember when I was a kid and I sat in my big brother’s room and looked at his posters of the Boss. The Boss is a part of my pop culture life. Ondrej and I brainstormed how to create the design and a plan crystallized in our brains, and I started to paint with my airbrushes. A clean cut old school design with Bruce painted in different eras.”
There are various Jets logos on the forehead and across the sides of the chin, but the primary theme is all Springsteen. As for the source of that inspiration, it’s entirely possible Pavelec, like Gunnarsson, grew up listening to Springsteen overseas, but it’s also true that Pavelec’s agent, Allen Walsh, is a huge fan of The Boss.
Not that we need a good excuse: Any reason for a Springsteen mask in the NHL is good enough for InGoal!
