Bruins backup Johnson Has New Playoff Mask

Chad Johnson Boston Bruins mask 2014 playoffs (2 of 5)It may not see much action beyond practice and morning skates the way No.1 Tuukka Rask is playing right now, but Boston Bruins backup Chad Johnson has a new mask for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Johnson, who will be an unrestricted free agent this summer after going 17-4-3 with a .925 save percentage in his first season with the Bruins, stuck with the same look he’s worn most of the season, but wanted to switch to a custom fit Vaughn mask made by Pro’s Choice.

Painted by Jesse Acciacca of Jesse’s Custom Design Airbrush Studio, Johnson’s mask featured the Bruins primary logo on the left side, and a secondary logo used on the team’s alternate third jerseys on the right side. Framed by stripes featuring the team’s gold-and-black colours, there rest of the mask is filled out with subtle shaded Bruins “B-Spoke” logos and paw prints from a bear.

The backplate features Johnson’s name and number 30, and the Saskatchewan native also has a red Canadian Maple Leaf with the initials of family members.

You can see more of the Boston-area artist’s work on his company website, and Facebook Page, and on Twitter. In the meantime enjoy his latest painting on the canvas provided by Pro’s Choice, who are also on Facebook and Twitter. In the meantime enjoy these close ups of Johnson’s playoff mask:

very nice, that’s using the ghost detail effect properly (as apposed to randomly gradating every color block)
