Check Out Darcy Kuemper’s New Wild Mask

kuemper-leftsideMinnesota’s Darcy Kuemper has combined some classic elements with modern flourishes to produce a great Wild inspired design for his new mask.

Working with David Gunnarsson of DaveArt, the green, red and white design features both the Wild’s main logo and the one used on the team’s third jerseys, as well as an awesome ‘ripped’ effect that reveals some beautiful close up details.

“Watch out folks…it is a werewolf on the loose in the Minnesota forests…” Gunnarsson wrote on his Facebook page. “Stay indoor and lock the doors… you can be ripped by the razor sharp claws of the werewolf, just like this mask…”

Inside the ‘tears’ we see the night sky, full of stars, and a werewolf howling at the moon – a small touch that really helps bring the mask alive.

25-year old Kuemper is entering the final year of his current deal, which was signed just 12 months ago following protracted negotiations between the club and player. The Saskatoon native had hoped to cement his place as the Wild’s #1 goaltender, but struggled to a 14-12-2 record with a .905 save percentage and eventually lost the starting role to Devan Dubnyk when he was acquired from Arizona in January.

Kuemper will become a restricted free agent next summer, with veteran stopper Niklas Backstrom set to become an unrestricted free agent.

You can find more of Gunnarsson’s great artwork on his website, Twitter feed, and Instagram account. And see if you can spot the werewolf in these close ups of Kuemper’s new mask:
