Connor Hellebuyck debuts North America mask

Team North America has already seen what goaltender Matt Murray will be wearing on his mask for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey this September in Toronto.

Now, they’ve gotten a chance to see what fellow netminder Connor Hellebuyck will be wearing, as well:

Hellebuyck’s mask design is brought to us by Steve Nash of EyeCandyAir airbrush designs, the same artist who drew up the phenomenal Special Forces tribute mask for Team USA netminder Jonathan Quick for the World Cup, as well.

Like Quick’s mask (and a number of Nash’s other designs), Hellebuyck’s lid will be predominantly slate grey, making the alternative orange coloring for Team North America pop out that much more. The entirety of the mask itself seems to be superimposed layers of the North America logo, as well; the jersey logo design takes up either side of the mask, while the top of the mask has the XXIII Roman numerals to signify that the team is 23 and under.

Finally, the mask features not Hellebuyck’s name on the chin, but – as is customary on the Winnipeg Jets prospect’s other mask designs – his number, 37.

The design doesn’t go into too much detail, but goes well with the overall color scheme for Team North America. Hopefully, fans of the Jets up-and-comer will get a chance to see him wear it on the ice for the amalgamated roster during the tournament. The World Cup of Hockey will begin on September 17th in Toronto.
