Derek Jeter Featured On Latest Desjardins Mask

Desjardins Right TopArguably the most popular baseball player in the world, Derek Jeter recently played his final professional baseball game with the New York Yankees before retiring. After 20 seasons with the Bronx Bombers, Jeter finished up with an RBI single in his last at bat, not to mention a walk off single in his last game at Yankee Stadium. While Jeter may be leaving the big MLB stage, his legacy will live on, even in the AHL! Cédrick Desjardins just signed a two year two-way deal with the New York Rangers and a great way to endear himself to the fans is put a couple of legends on his mask. Thanks to David Leroux of Diel Airbrush, Desjardins will have the aforementioned Jeter and the great Frank Sinatra on his mask for the upcoming year in Hartford.

Likely destined to start the season with New York’s AHL affiliate in Hartford, Desjardins has the snarling Wolf Pack logo on the left and right sides of the mask. On the chin of the mask, his nickname (“CEDDY”) is written out in a sharp, chrome font. A large Rangers logo is featured on the top of the mask with the same chrome metal style.

Things take a Big Apple swing when you see the sides of the mask.

Two portraits of Derek Jeter are on the right side of the mask, with Jeter tipping his cap to the viewer and looking into the distance with the batting helmet on. The famed number 2 sits next to the portraits, as well as a replica of Jeter’s signature. The Yankees captain for the last 11 years, Jeter will be missed sorely in the New York sports world, but this is sure to keep the fire burning.

On the left side of the mask, David Leroux has painted another two portraits. This time it’s Frank Sinatra. One of the smoothest entertainers the world has ever seen, Sinatra is looking good on the side of this mask. The “New York, New York” singer looks cool and calm with his patented fedora and million dollar smile. According to Leroux, “the only thing that might not be visible on the pictures is the portraits section is flat clearcoat so it makes it look even more classy!” Classy might be the next nickname for this mask.

Desjardins has bounced around a bit in his career, initially signed by the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2006. Since then, Desjardins has played with 5 different teams, ranging from the ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Now with the Rangers organization, Desjardins should provide some quality goaltending behind Henrik Lundqvist and Cam Talbot. Desjardins has only played 6 NHL games, but in 219 AHL games, he’s gone 104-80-18 with a .911 SV%. After spending time in the Montreal and Tampa Bay organizations, the 29 year old Edmundston, New Brunswick native surely hopes to stick around in Hartford, or even New York.

This mask is sure to be popular with baseball and hockey fans alike, especially with all the hullabaloo surrounding Jeter’s last season in pinstripes.

David Leroux has some history with portraits, painting the Tuskagee Airmen and Sugar Ray Leonard on two masks for Ray Emery. Leroux was also the painter for Cedrick Desjardins’ two masks in Tampa Bay (2010 & 2013) and Montreal. Be sure to check out the Diel Airbrush website, as well as follow David on TwitterInstagram, and Facebook.
