Neuvirth Scores A Knockout With New Rocky Mask

NeuvirthMichal Neuvirth may not have taken to the ice for Philadelphia yet, but his new mask design is sure to be a hit with the Flyers faithful.

Working with David Gunnarsson of DaveArt, Neuvirth’s new Bauer mask celebrates iconic film character Rocky Balboa, showing Sylvester Stallone’s famous Philadelphia boxer in a number of poses, both bloodied and bruised and with wife Adrian (played by Talia Shire).

“You’re gonna eat lightning and you’re gonna crap thunder” Gunnarsson quipped on his Facebook page, quoting Rocky’s famous coach Mickey Goldmill.

Neuvirth joined Philadelphia as a free agent this summer, after splitting the 2014/15 season with Buffalo and then the Islanders. Drafted by Washington in 2006 (34th overall), Neuvirth holds a career record of 66-63-17 with a save percentage of .912 and a 2.73 goals against average.

“Michal and I have been working together for many years.” Gunnarsson said. “Michal was sure what he wanted on his new Flyers mask, he wanted a tribute to Rocky. I loved the idea and I started to brainstorm. I love the Rocky movies, and I came up with a plan how we could create the design. I started to paint”

The Flyers logo appears on the opposite side of Neuvirth’s new mask, along with the image of Strekov Castle, which is situated near the 27-year old’s home town of Ústí Nad Labem, Czech Republic.
