Harding’s Mask a Tribute to Departed Grandmother, Teammates
Minnesota’s Josh Harding is one of the most involved goaltenders in the NHL in terms of the design of his masks and often uses them for tributes, from promoting Breast Cancer awareness during his sister’s battle with the disease, to his favourite rock bands, and even a tip of the hat to old friends with a mural of them all playing shinny on outdoor rinks.
Last season’s mask even paid tribute to all the masks used in the Wild’s first 10 seasons.
Todd Miska of Miska Designs his always been his artist – they developed a close working relationship as Miska brought Harding’s concepts to life. This year Harding asked for a special tribute to his grandmother boldly across the right side of his mask, while the backplate, reserved for personal tributes by many goalies, includes the names of recently passed friends and former teammates – Rick Rypien, Derek Boogaard and Pavol Demitra.
