Lehner Soul Hunter Senators Mask Invokes Nightmares

Robin Lehner Ottawa Senators 2013-14 mask right sideOttawa Senators backup – and likely future NHL star – Robin Lehner is invoking nightmares.

No, it has nothing to do with the abysmal team defence that allowed the Anaheim Ducks to fire a franchise-record 56 shots at the Ottawa net on Sunday night, though that may cause his coach to lose sleep.

Lehner’s nightmares come from his new mask by fellow Swede David Gunnarsson of DaveArt.

“Lehner’s latest NHL mask is the next step in his own mask series, ‘SoulHunter,'” Gunnarsson explained on his Facebook page. “We wanted to create something totally unique, the nature of a nightmare. The design that we saw in front of us was a sinister and unpleasant feeling, all created in a very violent style with a matt rugged finish, a design that delivers in all angles … the feeling you have when wake up in the middle of a nightmare.”

As with a lot of Gunnarsson designs, while the important logos are easily recognized from a distance, more details emerge the closer you get. Or in this case, “the deeper you dig into the nightmare.”

You can find more of Gunnarsson’s great artwork on both his website and on his Twitter feed, but for now try not to lose too much sleep staring at these close-ups of Lehner’s latest lid:

Maybe nightmares but he scare the puck away. He might of scared the starting job away. That’s some trick or treat mask. Maybe with that mask you might win the division. In other words its Cool Baby !!!!

I’m a Senators fan and will always be one but I have to disagree 100% with what Robin Lehner’s mask portrays. If I’m able to go to a game or two this year I really hope & pray that Anderson is between the pipes. Robin is an excellent goalie and I would never say that he isn’t, it’s just that there is already too violence in the world and we really don’t need to bring things like this into hockey.
