No need for a plain white mask this season, Malcolm!

With Halloween just a few weeks away, Boston’s Malcom Subban has a suitably spooky new mask ready for the 2015-2016 season.

The 21-year old has teamed up with David Gunnarsson of DaveArt to produce a new version of his popular grim reaper design.

The Toronto native has featured the deathly figure on previous masks, and Gunnarsson’s new body bag idea is sure to be a hit.

“I love the challenge to transform the masks into something else,” Gunnarsson wrote on his Facebook page “And what can be more scary than a body bag. Malcolm and I brainstormed different ideas during summer and this design emerged.”

Selected 24th overall in the 2012 draft, Subban looks to have a bright future ahead of him and impressed for the AHL Providence Bruins last season, going 16-13-4 with a .921 save percentage and 2.44 goals against average.

Subban also featured in one game for Boston, making his NHL debut against St. Louis in February. The young puck stopper is unlikely to look back fondly on the experience however, with the Blues scoring three goals in quick succession at the start of the second period, leading to Coach Claude Julien pulling Subban in favour of Tuukka Rask.

The former Belleville Bulls’ stopper will begin the season with Providence, with the Bruins opting to give Subban additional playing time in the AHL while they go with Jeremy Smith or Jonas Gustavsson, who is with the club on a PTO at present, as backup to Rask.

You can find more of Gunnarsson’s great artwork on his website, Twitter feed, and Instagram account. Meanwhile, here are some close ups of Subban’s cool new mask:
