Varlamov Blends Russia and Avalanche on New Mask

Semyon Varlamov has a new head coach, a new goalie coach, new pads, and now a new mask with the Colorado Avalanche.
Painted by Swedish artist David Gunnarsson of DaveArt, Varlamov’s new CCM mask not only matches his new pads, but blends perfectly with the Colorado Avalanche uniforms and logos.
But that doesn’t mean Varlamov has forgotten his Russian roots.
“The left side of the mask, closest to the heart, is a tribute to Mother Russia with the double headed russian eagles, and the right side is a tribute to Colorado Avalanche and America,” Gunnarsson wrote on his Facebook page. “This new NHL design is built all the way on the Colorado Avalanches logos, in total harmony with the Avs uniforms. We brainstormed different design ideas and the design idea crystallized in our minds and I started to create a design that works in all 360 degrees.”
Like all of Gunnarsson’s masks, more detail unveils itself the closer to you look, including subtle smaller logos and footprints throughout, so enjoy these close ups, and look for more of Gunnarsson’s great artwork on both his website and on his Twitter feed:
