I wish I could have been there for this one as Rochester goaltender and Florida Panthers prospect Alexander Salak obviously thought it was high time the goalies did some stylin’ during the shootout – here he tries to execute the between the legs glove save. Sadly, it was the one shot he missed. In the game itself Salak also showed a bit of flair by attempting to punt a puck out of his zone. Salak was the starting goaltender for the Planet USA team stopping 6 of 8 shots – funny how a 0.75 save percentage can seem like a good accomplishment in all-star play.
Hamilton goalie Cedric Desjardins claimed the Reebok Top Goaltender award by stopping 16 of 19 shots for the Canadian side. Desjardins, a second-year pro, entered the league’s midseason showcase ranking second in the AHL in goals-against average (1.81), tied for fifth in save percentage (.929), and first in shutouts (5) in 26 games for the North Division-leading Bulldogs.
