Interview with Jonas Hiller of the Anaheim Ducks

There is a very good interview posted over at with Jonas Hiller of the Anaheim Ducks that is worth taking a look at. In it he discusses:

  • His place on the Anaheim depth chart
  • Aspirations to start for Switzerland in the Vancouver 2010 games.
  • Why Switzerland produces more goalies than position players for the NHL
  • Francois Allaire’s impact on Swiss goalies.

Reader Michel Godbout of Montreal wrote in to add:

“Jacques Plante was actually the cornerstone of Swiss goalie (and other European countries) development (see Pelle Lindbergh, etc). When he moved there he opened up many goalie schools and that was the true base that Allaire picked up after.”

Of course he finds time for some goaltending of his own as well, and despite his age, clings desperately to the idea that some NHL team will call him to play for them - though in his mid-forties (OK, late 40s) it'll likely be for a practice when everyone else on their depth chart has the flu and the shooter tutor has gone in for repairs.
