Shots on Goal: Binghamton’s Brust vs Manchester’s Zatkoff
The run to the 2011 Calder Cup began Friday night as the Monarchs took the first game of the best-of-seven series against the Senators 2-1.
Brust returned to Manchester where his AHL career started. Although he joined the Monarchs in 2004, Brust made his first appearance between the pipes in 2005 and accumulated a 28-21-1 record with a 2.61 goals-against-average, a .918 save percentage and four shutouts over the next two seasons.
Brust (0-1) took his first loss of the post-season with 27 saves on 29 shots.
Zats (1-0) picked up his first victory of the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs, stopping 34-of-35 shots on goal. Zatkoff lost the shutout with 38 seconds remaining as Binghamton pulled Brust for an extra skater and Ryan Potulny tipped a Derek Smith shot past Jeff Zatkoff to pull Binghamton within one.
