Tendyfest 3 prize winners: Like Christmas in May for goalies
It was like Christmas in late May for the Goalie Union in and around Vancouver on Sunday.
The third annual Tendyfest, presented by The Hockey Shop goal department, was filled with new toys and great people, a celebration of the position that included the chance to talk to, and get an autograph from, San Jose Sharks No. 1 Martin Jones, three-time Canadian Olympic medal winner Shannon Szabados, and even beer league legend (in his own mind) Kane Van Gate.
Just like Christmas as a kid, however, it was over too quickly. Even five jam packed hours of testing the latest in new equipment from the top manufacturers doesn’t seem like enough. Thanks to The Hockey Shop and those companies, the day doesn’t end with just memories (even if holding Szabados’ medals will be one few forget); in addition to great savings on site, there are prizes to give away too.
The Hockey Shop did the draw Tuesday, and here are the winners:

Winning new gear is always nice but the biggest part of Tendyfest has always been the chance to take the latest and greatest from all the manufacturers out on the ice and try it for yourself. This year did not disappoint, with a huge inventory from Bauer, CCM, Brian’s. Warrior and Vaughn rotating steadily from the trade show floor, to the locker rooms and onto the ice. Even KVG’s new 2S Pro colors made it onto the ice, which is more than we can say for the man himself making it to the interview he asked us for.
Every brand was well represented, with sizes ranging from youth to adult.
The Hockey Shop did a great job of making sure there were enough quality shooters for all.
Beyond the gear testing and chance to ask reps from each company detailed questions in person at the trade show, the highlight for many this year was a chance to meet Jones and Szabados. InGoal grabbed interviews with each about the event. Here’s a short chat with Jones about the event, with a longer interview with Szabados to follow on social media:
Martin Jones Interview
As Jones says in the interview, Tendyfest really “is a dream.” From the trade show, to the gear testing to the guests, it was another great day put on by the staff of The Hockey Shop, again attracting visitors from as far south as Seattle, as far east as Calgary and right up through the northern British Columbia interior.
So, on behalf of all those proud members of the goalie union that turned out, thanks to Cam, Chad and Brad for organizing this great day for us, congratulations to all the prize winners, enjoy more of the photos from the event below (all courtesy of, and rights belonging to Panthermedia /Pixel Photography) and keep your eye out for another great early Tendyfest next summer.
