Vaughn CHL Goalie of the Week: Silvertips’ Austin Lotz
Austin Lotz of the Everett Silvertips was named the last Vaughn Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Week for 2012 after winning both his games with a 0.98 goals-against average and .973 save percentage.
Lotz backstopped the Silvertips to a pair of one-goal victories against U.S.-Division rival Seattle. The 17-year-old from St. Adolphe, Manitoba made 17 of his 38 saves in the third period of a 2-1 win Friday night, and then on Saturday he made 34 saves and was named the game’s Second Star in a 2-1 overtime victory over the Thunderbirds.
Also considered for the award were Christopher Gibson of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens after going 1-1-0-0 with a 2.53 goals-against-average and .931 save percentage, and Owen Sound’s Brandon Hope, who won both his starts while posting a goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .944.
