September is National Preparedness Month and with the hockey season ramping up, what better time than now to prepare for the unexpected? Complete the Concussion Diagnostic test for your pre-season baseline. Baseline testing should help you maintain a healthy performance throughout the year. If you do sustain a concussion, you can retake the Concussion Diagnostic and compare past and present results for a safe return to play.
The baseline testing can also be used to test your cognitive abilities and brain function in a non-hockey related platform. Test and train your memory recall, reaction time, and vision skills. 'Dark Mode' is a great feature for those that have sensitivity to light or currently have concussion symptoms. Please take advantage of this option on both the Player and Goalie platforms. The Sense Arena Advisory board suggests the Concussion Baseline test should be taken on an annual basis to provide documentation of your most up-to-date baseline results prior to starting a new season. Please take 10 minutes this pre-season and prepare appropriately for the long season ahead.
Best of luck this season from your Sense Arena Team!
InGoal Radio Podcast presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports
🎤 Episode 188 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features a long, informative conversation with last season's PWHPA champion Marlène Boissonnault. In the feature interview, presented by Sense Arena, Boissonnault (or Boss, as she is known to teammates and on Instagram @MarleneBoss) shares fascinating insights into her path from a mostly self-taught goalie who learned from her dad and trying to be like Martin Brodeur, to a more structured goalie who now also coaches right up to the college level in Canada. There are great lessons on health and mindset from her time at Cornell University, where she studied pre-med but also took psychology course) and endured a hip surgery. She shares great examples of the modernization or her game, including a 3-layer stance and what quadrant of the skate blade she wants to be on as part of a "Bring It" mindset and how to clear your brain of negative thoughts. Boissonnault also shares stories about how an engineer convinced her to wear white as her signature pad color, and why she was willing to forgo that last season to play in a set of yellow Juuse Saros gear. There really is something for everyone in this hour-long interview. All that, plus our weekly plus a trip to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at their special edition Bauer Mach chest protector, with beefed up arms and shoulders, and other custom options.
