Shots on Goal: Goalie Photos-Springfield’s Gustaf Wesslau vs Manchester’s Martin Jones

The Manchester Monarchs, sporting throwback jerseys in honor of the Monarchs from the 1970’s, earned their 16thvictory of the season (16-8-1-1) with 7-2 win over the Springfield Falcons, AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Note: For anyone interested in one of the Monarch’s throwback jerseys, they are being auctioned off until Dec 12th.

Gustaf Wesslau

Wesslau (2-4-0) had a number of pretty saves on the night such as the one in the photo below where he stopped Monarchs forward Corey Elkins as he skated in from the right circle. With his stick and blocker on the ice, Gustaf redirected the puck away from the net along with help from Falcons defenseman  Jonathan Sigalet.

I’ll put this shot in “The Agony of Defeat” category as Wesslau sits dejected after Monarch’s captain Marc- Andre Cliche scores his second goal of the night, late in the third period.

 Martin Jones

Jones has been on a roll as of late and with this win, his fourth in a row, improves his record to (6-1-0). He stopped 22 of 24 shots on net.

In the sequence below, with all kinds of traffic in front of him, Jones gets a piece of the puck with his stick and is able to send it off into the corner.
