Shots on Goal: Goalie Photos-The Beanpot

What is the Beanpot? To most people, a beanpot is a deep, wide-bellied, short-necked vessel used to cook beans. To those of us in the Boston area, it’s a winter hockey tradition that takes place on the first and second Monday in February at the TD Garden, home of the Bruins.

The tournament consists of four local schools, Harvard, Northeastern, Boston College and Boston University. All are within a few square miles of each other.  It lasts two rounds, with first-round opponents being rotated from year to year. The second round consists of a consolation game to start the night followed by the championship game.

In addition to the trophy, the winner is also awarded city bragging rights for a year.

Harvard’s Kyle Richter vs Boston College’s John Muse

Boston College took the first game of the night 6-0, behind a 33 save effort from junior goaltender John Muse.  The win for Muse was his 52nd as an Eagle and improved his record to 9-6-2 on the season.  Muse played 57:26 and was lifted for Chris Venti for the final 2:24.

Harvard goalie Kyle Richter made 33 saves in 54:02, while replacement John Riley made four saves in the closing 5:58.

The Crimson was penalized 17 times for 58 minutes. They also had three game misconducts in the third period.

Northeastern’s Chris Rawlings vs Boston University’s Kieren Milan

In the nightcap, BU’s Kieren Milan stopped 26 shots to pick up the win as BU bested Northeastern 2-1. Milan improved his record to 8-10-0, thus setting up the 250th  meeting between BU and BC for the championship game.

Freshman Chris Rawlings (10-10-1), turned away 33 shots in his first ever Beanpot action.

Northeastern will play Harvard in the consolation game.
