LASER-like focus on the puck

Did you see that video making the rounds on social media of the cat who was making crazy heart-stopping saves all over the place?  Talk about cat-like reflexes!

Well, that video made me think of my friend in University who used to entertain his cat (or maybe it was just us) using a laser pointer.  Rob would shine a dot on the floor and the cat would pounce!  Another dot – another athletic leap and pounce.

It was awesome.

So, if it works for a cat, why not a goalie right?

Here’s what I mean…

In the video below you will see three drills:

  • Low Ready Position Tap
  • Catcher, Blocker or Block
  • Shot & Rebound

Technical tips…

  • If possible wear your mask for this drill so you get used to seeing through your blind spots – especially when that rebound drops into your feet.
  • Make sure you wear your knee pads if you are going to be dropping to your knees and limit that maneuver to 6-10 times total. That movement is hard on your hips and knees so let’s not over-do it.
