No Equipment Needed Agility Drill (with video)
We have talked in the past about the importance of establishing dynamic balance and how it relates to your agility in the crease. If you cannot quickly find your perfect point of balance, you have immediately compromised your power production potential.
You will not be able to move with maximum speed. PERIOD.
That’s where this goalie agility drill (no equipment required) helps you train that dynamic balance/power application combination helping you learn:
• to apply your power quickly in short bursts
• to use the big muscles of your hip, knee and ankle to decelerate
• to use your stabilizers to maintain balance and positioning
• and to use your torso to stay square
Here’s how to do it:
Remember to start with small quick pushes and once you have perfected those as demonstrated by your perfect point of balance immediately upon landing and your square torso (shoulders and hips level). Then you can work on getting more distance with each push or adding more pushes to each repetition.
Start with six repetitions in each direction and stick the landing for three seconds on each end. This actually makes the drill harder to execute with perfection compared to linking the reps.
This drill is a good addition to your off-ice speed and agility routine or it can be added to your off-ice dynamic warm-up.
